Hey guys! Fitness Should Be Fun!

People who know me know that I don't place much value in New Years resolutions, especially those of the weight loss and fitness variety. Most resolutions we make that involve dramatically changing our lives in an instant are abandoned within a few weeks or even days.

In the fitness world, New Years day is by far the biggest resolution day, but coming in at second place is the first Monday in September (Labor Day in many countries). Just like in January, the gyms fill to overflowing in September for a few brief weeks as many people resolve to lose their newly acquired beer'n bar-b-que bellies.

I haven't heard anyone call them Labor Day resolutions yet, but with a little bit of media hype I'm sure we can start a trend.

Why, you say, would I, the New Years resolution humbugger, want to encourage something similar in the fall?

Well, I figure there seems to be enough genuine physical activity for 2-4 weeks after a resolution date to do SOME, if short-term, good. So it follows that all we need are enough resolution days throughout the year to promote and develop year-round fitness habits.

Therefore, I'd like to challenge all my fellow members at itsgottabefun.ning to let everyone know what THEIR Labor Day fitness resolution is by posting it in a blog, comment or forum item here. Make it realistic and achievable, then go for it!

Now is also the time to shake your shyness and post a few "before" or "my progress" fitness photos of yourself. People who share their goals and aspirations are known to be wildly more successful at achieving them. (Polite photos only guys, you know the rules.) Shoot your photos in places and in poses that you can replicate again and again in the next few months and years as you head toward (and past?) your fitness goals. And don't be afraid to reaveal enough of yourself so you can see the difference between photos. Remember, no body is ugly, it's just that some are less or more fit than others.

Once you have documented the starting point, put away the scales, turn away the mirrors, and find something you enjoy (or think you might learn to enjoy) that is physically active.

And ... oh ... you testosterone factories out there who were going to message me that having sex is fun and good for you. (Yes, I've read your profiles.) Save the typing time. We all already know about the fun and benefit of sex. But that alone is not enough to make or keep you fit. The real challenge is to engage yourself with something other than that!

I'm looking forward to hearing from you all.

Remember, its gottabefun ... or it's just exercise.
