ItsGottaBeFun

Hey guys! Fitness Should Be Fun!

The focus of this site is on "starting". For most of us the biggest hurdle in heading down the road to a fit lifestyle is just getting started. (The next biggest hurdle is to just keep going.) That's because we have been conditioned into thinking that it is a momentous occasion requiring time, preparation, commitment, discipline and even money. So we put off doing anything until everything is in place and we are ready to go.

Nothing is further from the truth. Let me demonstrate. Right now, stop reading this and do the following:
Lay down with your back on the floor and your knees bent so your feet are also flat on the floor. Raise your shoulders slowly and gently up as far as you can. Then slowly lower them down. Repeat this until you can't do any more.

Go on ... do it!

There. You've started! You just exercised your abs (tummy muscles). No big fitness program. All it took was a few minutes of your time. No gym. No equipment. No expense. Its certainly not what you would call a total body workout, (don't plan on signing with the modelling agency any time soon :) )but it certainly is a start. Do that simple exercise every second day (the muscles need a day to rest). And next time count how many times you raised your shoulders. Each time after that try to do a few extra times.

You'll notice we didn't worry yet about form, number of repetitions, variety, technique or how you were dressed, etc. And we didn't consider any fun alternatives to it. All that will come with time. As the sage old advice goes "You eat a whole elephant by taking one small bite at a time." You, my friend, just took your first bite.

You can add other exercises to that gradually, until you have a whole fitness program going. (I'll be posting a bunch of additional elephant bites soon, or you can do your own thing. Just Google "exercises" or "workouts" and you will find plenty of free ideas.

Even if you didn't actually stop and do those chrunches, I hope you got my point. You also realize, however, that you now have no excuse to delay.

Now it's time to fess up. Did you actually do those abdominal crunches? Let me know with a comment or reply if you did. Or if not, what stopped you.
